Dry-cleaned whole nests
Dry-cleaned edible bird's nest, wholesale from Malaysia
The raw nests we dry-clean carry fewer than 10 feathers each. A light mist of water is enough to lift them out, and some need no water at all. Everything is done by hand, with no shaping, no glue coating and no bleaching. Each nest leaves us in the cup shape it arrived in and is 99% natural. Because it is never soaked for long, its texture is the best of our three cleaning methods. Supplied in two natural sizes: medium-large and medium-small.

Dry-cleaned: so few feathers, no soaking needed
Dry-cleaned does not mean cleaned harder. It is only possible when the raw nest is clean to begin with: a single raw nest carries fewer than 10 feathers, which come away with a light mist of water, or sometimes with none, and the work is done entirely by hand. With no soaking and no moulding, the nest keeps the natural cup shape and strand pattern it arrived with. And because it is never shaped, dry-cleaned bird's nest comes in only two natural sizes, medium-large and medium-small. It cannot be graded by calliper into A grades the way wet-cleaned whole nests are. The trade-off is that raw nests with so few feathers are scarce, so the price is the highest of the three methods.
- Fewer than 10 feathers on the raw nest. Dry-cleaned is only possible when the raw material is clean to begin with.
- A light mist of water lifts the feathers out, and some nests need none. All by hand, with no glue coating and no bleaching.
- No soaking and no moulding, so the cup shape and strand pattern are just as the nest arrived. That is why there are only two sizes: medium-large and medium-small.
Two natural sizes only: medium-large and medium-small
Every nest has its own natural form. Nothing is pressed into a mould, so the size comes from the raw nest itself.
| Natural size | Where the size comes from | Cup shape | Suggested use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medium-large | The raw nest arrives at this size; no shaping, no compacting | Wider cup, natural curve, clear strand pattern | Premium retail · gift sets · OEM for brands |
| Medium-small | As above: natural size variation within the same batch of raw nests | Intact cup, slightly smaller | Retail packs · wholesale · OEM |
A dry-cleaned whole nest weighs about 5–8 g. The weight range for each of the two sizes varies by batch and is given with your quote. Looking for 5A / 4A / 3A dense whole nests? Those are shaped nests from our wet-cleaned bird's nest range.
Dry-, semi-wet- and wet-cleaned: how they differ
The difference comes down to how many feathers the raw nest carries: the fewer the feathers, the less it needs to touch water
| Aspect | Dry-cleaned | Semi-wet-cleaned | Wet-cleaned |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feathers in the raw nest | Fewer than 10 feathers | About 10% | Close to 20% (never above 20%) |
| How feathers are removed | A light mist of water is enough; some nests need none | Cleaned in a bowl, removing feathers the quickest way | In a bowl of clean water, pulled out one by one under water |
| Cleaning challenge | - | A few fine feathers | Fine feathers and sand |
| Cup shape | Natural, as it arrived; not shaped | Fairly intact and dense | Shaped; neat and uniform |
| Range | Two natural sizes only: medium-large / medium-small | Whole nests · strips · small strips | Dense whole nests 5A / 4A / 3A · strips |
| Cleanliness | 93–94% | 96–97% | 97–98% |
| Texture | Better (no long soak) | In between | Slightly less good (soaked and expanded in water) |
| Expansion ratio (when soaked) | Highest | High | Lower |
| Price level | Highest | Mid-range | Lower |
The three methods are a trade-off, and none is better across the board. Choose dry-cleaned for the finest cup shape and texture, semi-wet-cleaned bird's nest for a balance of the two, and wet-cleaned bird's nest for the highest cleanliness, uniform grading and volume supply.

Dry-cleaned whole nests are whole nests that have their feathers picked out and are cleaned by hand while still in a fairly dry state. The nest is never soaked whole. Only where needed, a small amount of clean water is misted onto a spot to help with the cleaning.
Key features:
· Processed with very little water
· Natural cup shape and strand texture are kept
· No artificial shaping
· Demands high-quality raw nests and skilled cleaning
No.
Our dry-cleaned whole nests are sorted by natural size into:
· Medium-large nests
· Medium-small nests
The two differ mainly in natural size and appearance. This does not mean their nutritional value is different.
Cleanliness of the finished product is about 93%–94%.
Because the dry-cleaned method keeps as much of the natural structure as possible, the product may contain a very small amount of fine feathers or natural impurities. This is normal.
Dry-cleaned whole nests are not artificially shaped, so each one keeps its naturally formed:
· Size
· Curve
· Thickness
· Colour
· Strand texture
Natural variation is normal, and is one of the characteristics of dry-cleaned whole nests.
They are suited to:
· Bird's nest wholesalers
· Distributors and agents
· Specialist bird's nest shops
· The mid- to high-end retail market
· The gift market
· Branded bird's nest customers
The main selling points are:
Natural cup shape | Processed with very little water | Cleaned by hand | No artificial shaping
We recommend soaking in purified or filtered water at room temperature for about 2–3 hours.
Once softened, gently tear the nest apart along the grain of the strands. If there are a few fine feathers, simply pick them out with tweezers.
Thicker parts such as the corners may need a longer soaking time.
We recommend double-boiling.
After soaking, place the bird's nest in a stewing pot and add water until it just covers the bird's nest or stands about 1–2cm above it. Once the water in the outer pot comes to the boil, turn the heat down low and stew for about 20–30 minutes.
Avoid stewing over high heat for a long time, so that the strands do not become too soft.
No.
With our dry-cleaned whole nests we insist on:
· No glue coating
· No bleaching
· No deliberate adding of weight
· No deliberate touching up to make them look uniform
As a result, the product may show natural differences in colour, size and texture. These are normal characteristics of natural bird's nest.
